Individual & Trauma Therapy in Ottawa & Ontario | Therapyw with Empathy
One second, everything was fine. Then something small happened. A tone of voice. A look. A moment that didn’t even seem like a big deal. And then you were gone. Defensive. Shut down. Somewhere else inside yourself.

And afterward, you just sat there, confused. What was that?

We don’t always talk about this part when it comes to trauma. It’s not always a big memory. Sometimes your body reacts before your brain even knows what’s happening. And you don’t know why.

Maybe your last relationship ended badly, and now you wonder if it’s you. Maybe you pull away before people get too close or hold on too tight. You want to change, but don’t know how.

Even when life gets better, you still can’t relax, always waiting for something to go wrong, always watching and bracing for it.

Maybe you’ve worked hard to get here. But in the back of your mind, you’re scared it could all go away. So you push harder than you need to. You overthink everything. You over-prepare. And you’re tired.

Being in certain rooms makes your guard go up. Fast. You’ve been in places where you had to watch your back. Where you proved yourself over and over, and it still wasn’t enough. Things look different now. But part of you still doesn’t believe it.

But remember, you’re not broken or overreacting. You learned how to survive something hard, and that survival mode came with you.

That’s why therapy isn’t about reliving everything. It’s about understanding why you do what you do. And getting some say in it.

You’ve carried this for a long time. You learned to live with it. But carrying it isn’t the same as putting it down. Therapy can help you learn how to let go.

You don’t have to figure this out alone. Support is available to help you understand and heal.

This is what it can feel like on the other side.

You feel safe in your own skin.

You stop waiting for the other shoe to drop. That “bracing” feeling in your shoulders starts to go away. You learn how to calm your body down so you can actually relax and feel safe in the present moment.

You understand your "why."

You stop wondering what is wrong with you. You learn why your body reacts the way it does. Instead of being scared of your feelings, you learn how to handle them. You get to be the one in charge again.

You can finally put the weight down.

You’ve spent years just trying to survive. We help you move past “survival mode” so you can actually start living. You stop overthinking everything and start trusting yourself again. You finally get your life back.

We make getting started easy.

You don’t have to have it all figured out before you call. You just have to be willing to try. We’ll handle the rest.
We’ll ask a few simple questions, match you with the right therapist, and go from there. No pressure. No judgment. Just a conversation.
You can book directly online, call us, or fill out the form and we’ll get back to you within one business day.

Things you're probaby wondering right now.

Do I have to talk about everything that happened?

No. A lot of people stay away from therapy because they don’t want to relive their worst memories. We don’t start there. Our first goal is to help you feel safe and steady right now. We go at your pace. You only share what you are ready to share, when you are ready to share it. You are always in control.

Why is this happening to me now? It was a long time ago.

Trauma doesn’t have a clock. Sometimes, your body waits until you are finally safe before it lets you feel how hard things really were. It’s like your system is finally trying to finish “surviving” so you can move on. It’s not a sign that you are getting worse, it’s a sign that your body is ready to heal.

What if I don't have a "big" story? I just feel stuck.

You don’t need a “dramatic” story to deserve help. Trauma is anything that was “too much, too fast, or too long” for your system to handle. If you feel jumpy, shut down, or like you can’t relax, that is enough. We don’t compare stories here. We focus on helping you feel better in your life today.

I’ve tried therapy before and it didn't help.

Trauma work is different than regular “talk therapy.” If you just talked about your problems but your body still felt tight and scared, it makes sense that you didn’t feel a change. We use tools that help your brain and your body work together. We’ll help you find the piece that was missing last time.

Ready to get some say in your life again?

You’ve spent a long time bracing for the worst. It’s exhausting to always be on guard. You don’t have to keep doing this on your own. Let’s talk about how to help you finally settle down.

ADHD

ADHD is more than just trouble focusing. It can make it hard to manage your time, handle your feelings, stay organized, and finish daily tasks.

WHAT IT LOOKS LIKE:

You might lose track of time or put things off, even when you care about them.

You may start lots of projects but not finish them.

Simple tasks can feel overwhelming, and it might feel like you’re always trying to catch up or forget important things.

Your feelings can change quickly or feel very strong. You might get frustrated easily, feel extra sensitive to criticism, or feel hurt by rejection.

Many people with ADHD feel like they have to work much harder than others just to keep up, which can make them very tired or doubt themselves.

HOW THERAPY HELPS:

Therapy can help you find ways that work for your brain. You’ll learn easy tricks for getting organized, managing your time, and handling big feelings.

Therapy can also help you feel better about yourself, even if you’ve felt “behind” or not good enough for a long time.
