Therapy for Athletes in Ottawa & Ontario | Therapyw with Empathy
Your performance is suffering. And you don’t know if it’s your body or your mind.

You work harder than almost anyone you know. Early mornings, late practices, film sessions. You’ve put in the time. You know you have the skill. But when the whistle blows, something shuts off.

You freeze. You hesitate. You second-guess the shot you’ve made a thousand times. And then the moment’s gone.

You’re not only an athlete. You’re a student. A teammate. A kid with a family and a future. And a lot is riding on all of it. There’s school too. Assignments. Exams. Teachers who don’t get why you’re exhausted. You got back from a tournament last night, and you’re supposed to show up today as if nothing happened. Most days, it feels like you’re failing at both. You’re not lazy. You’re tired in a way that’s hard to explain.

And then there’s the pressure inside the team. Who starts. Who gets pulled. Who the coach trusts when it matters. You want to be that person. You used to feel like that person. Lately, you’re not sure. You’ve been overthinking every move. You used to play. Now it feels like you’re watching yourself play. And it’s not going well.

You’re not losing your ability. You’re losing access to it. That’s not a skill problem. That’s performance anxiety. And it’s more common in athletes than most people talk about.

Your mind is fast. But under pressure, fast becomes too fast. Your brain gets in the way. The things that feel automatic in practice stop feeling automatic. Your body tightens. Your confidence drops. And the more you push, the worse it gets.

You don’t need someone to tell you to work harder. You need someone to help you figure out what’s actually getting in the way.

Therapy for athletes isn’t about slowing you down. It’s about helping you get out of your own way.

We work on the anxiety before a big game. The spiral after a mistake. The weight of expectations you’ve been carrying alone. We help you build the mental toughness that lets your true ability shine.

You already have the skills. You just need to let yourself play again.

This is what it can feel like on the other side.

You get out of your own way.

You stop “watching yourself” play and find your flow again. The things you practice start to feel automatic during the game. You move from overthinking every move to just playing the game you love.

One bad play is just one play.

You learn how to move past a bad play in seconds, not days. You build a mind that is steady and tough. One mistake doesn’t have to ruin your whole game, or your whole week, ever again.

You handle the pressure better.

You learn how to handle the noise from coaches, scouts, and even yourself. You get the tools to play at a high level without burning out. You stop feeling like you have to be perfect all the time.

We make getting started easy.

You don’t have to have it all figured out before you call. You just have to be willing to try. We’ll handle the rest.
We’ll ask a few simple questions, match you with the right therapist, and go from there. No pressure. No judgment. Just a conversation.
You can book directly online, call us at (343) 451-7276, or fill out the form and we’ll get back to you within one business day.

Things you're probaby wondering right now.

Will this make me "soft"?

No. It’s the opposite. It takes a lot of strength to look at the things that are holding you back. Working on your mind is just like working on your body. It makes you a tougher competitor. The best athletes in the world use mental coaching to stay on top. This is just another way to level up.

What if I don't have a "big" problem?

You don’t need to be in a total crisis to come here. Maybe you just want to stop the nerves before a game. Maybe you want to learn how to focus better. We work with people who are doing “fine” but want to do great. You don’t have to wait until you’re “broken” to get better.

Will you tell my coach or my parents what we say?

No. This is your space. What we talk about is private. You can be honest here about the things you can’t say at practice or at the dinner table. If you want us to talk to your coach or parents to help them understand you better, we can do that, but only if you ask us to.

How is this different from just "talking to a friend"?

A friend might tell you to “just relax” or “don’t worry about it.” We know that doesn’t work. We give you real tools to change how your body and brain react under pressure. We don’t just listen; we help you build a plan to get your confidence back.

Get out of your own way.

You’ve already done the hard work. You have the skills. Now, it’s time to build a mind that is as strong as your body. Let’s clear the path so your real ability can finally show up when the whistle blows.

ADHD

ADHD is more than just trouble focusing. It can make it hard to manage your time, handle your feelings, stay organized, and finish daily tasks.

WHAT IT LOOKS LIKE:

You might lose track of time or put things off, even when you care about them.

You may start lots of projects but not finish them.

Simple tasks can feel overwhelming, and it might feel like you’re always trying to catch up or forget important things.

Your feelings can change quickly or feel very strong. You might get frustrated easily, feel extra sensitive to criticism, or feel hurt by rejection.

Many people with ADHD feel like they have to work much harder than others just to keep up, which can make them very tired or doubt themselves.

HOW THERAPY HELPS:

Therapy can help you find ways that work for your brain. You’ll learn easy tricks for getting organized, managing your time, and handling big feelings.

Therapy can also help you feel better about yourself, even if you’ve felt “behind” or not good enough for a long time.
